Our 6 Day Rwanda Primates Safari is tailor-made for primate lovers interested in tracking gorillas and chimpanzees in “The land of a thousand hills”. It starts with a pick up from Kigali to Nyungwe national park in the southern Rwanda for chimpanzee tracking and the breathtaking canopy walk adventure, then connect to Volcanoes national park for gorilla trekking and return to Kigali. In both parks, authorities allow trekkers to stay with the primates for an hour, a once in a life time moment worth the investment.

After going through the entry guidelines at the airport, meet your safari driver and transfer to Kigali city. Depending on the time of arrival, you can go for a short city excursion at Kigali Genocide Memorial or simply transfer to the hotel, freshen up and relax. You will have your dinner and rest. Rise up to a cup of coffee at the hotel, thereafter meet your safari guide and drive out of Kigali. As you connect to Nyungwe, there are a number of interesting places you can stopover and spice up your trip. Some of these include local markets, the traditional palace in Nyanza, the Botanical Gardens last but not the least is the cultural museum. Proceed with the trip going through stunning greenery tea plantations across the hillsides. You will arrive at the lodge in the evening, check-in, freshen up and rest. You will enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at the lodge, pack your lunch plus some energy giving snacks and drive to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts while in the forest. Trained and experienced ranger and guide will lead you through the forest to search for the chimpanzees. Trekking through Nyungwe forest requires some minimum level of fitness and with the help of walking sticks, you will make your way through the trails on the moderately steep slopes. Once the apes are spotted, you are allowed to stay with them for an hour. These amazing creatures live in troops and they are often seen taking care of each other and playing together. Next after the trek is the canopy walk, an adventure that makes a visit to Nyungwe forest complete. The walkway suspended about 160m high offers a breathtaking aerial view of the forest canopy. This is one of the best places to go for a typical adventure, the thrill when you look down can only be conquered by those with fierce hearts good enough to face their fears. Have breakfast and head out for one more and insightful nature walk around the forest. An expert guide has a lot to share about the wildlife around the forest including the tree species, primates, mammals, birds and butterflies some of which you may spot. There is plenty of time to take photos of every beautiful scenery and interesting attractions here. After about 4 hours of the nature walk, enjoy your picnic lunch in the forest, thereafter go meet your driver and set off to Volcanoes national park. You will start the day with an early morning breakfast and head to the park offices for briefing about gorilla trekking. Know that you are at the prime gorilla trekking destination in the world with its gorillas being some of the easiest to spot compared to those in other gorilla destinations. However, the duration of the trek is unpredictable. So! Collect all your eagerness to encounter these interesting creatures as you hit the trails with the ranger and guide. When you finally spot the apes, you are allowed to spend a maximum of an hour with them and then exit the forest back to the lodge. If the trek doesn’t last so long, you can have lunch at the lodge and visit a local community for the Iby’Iwachu cultural experience. Then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Have a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, check out and drive to Kigali. The journey takes about 3 hours, and your driver drops you at your residence, lodge or airport in Kigali. End of safari
